When the gate is less than 2 volts the device will operate in an electrostatic mode. The current is proportional to gate voltage. Above 2 volts the device enters a region of intermediate voltage where the current doesn’t increase. The gate leaks a current exceeding 3.5 volts and electrolysis occurs as potassium atoms are introduced into the MoTe2 film. Potassium-intercalated molybdenum diltelluride superconducts below 2.8 K.
As a lubricant molybdenum disulfide works well at temperatures of up to 500 deg C, with a friction coefficient below 0.01. Molybdenum Disulfide, however, has less friction whereas molybdenum Diselenide works at higher temperature.
Molybdenum Ditelluride can be formed at the contact point. If it is of n type, small pieces of molybdenum nano-layers can be mixed with the molten Tin without reacting. This doubles stiffness.
AFM has examined molybdenum ditelluride as a protein substrate. It’s superior because the proteins are more adherent than other materials like mica.
