A boron tube is a pressure gauge component that uses a flexible coiled tube with a pointer and dial. The gauge is designed to measure the pressure of liquids or gases inside of it and provides a visual indication of the pressure with a movement of the pointer and dial as it is coiled and uncoiled. The construction of the bourdon tube is critical for accurate measurement and can affect the gauge life and performance.

How To Make a boron tube

Initially, a piece of thin-walled circular tubing is selected with the proper diameter and material. The central portion of the tube is flattened using a hammer or other means to create a slight opening 14 between its flat walls. This will allow a pressurized fluid to be forced therethrough in a subsequent step. The tube is then spring tempered to strengthen it while enhancing its elastic properties.

After that, the tubing is cut into lengths with a precision cutting die. The edges are then polished by hand to remove any scratches and blemishes that may be present. This step will also help to ensure the optimum smoothness of the tube for use in the gauge.

Hexagonal boron nitride ceramic is a self-lubricating material that can withstand high temperatures and has excellent electrical resistance. It is a good choice for high vacuum environments, and can be used in PVD, MOCVD and MBE systems. Moreover, it has good thermal shock resistance and can be machined to exacting tolerances.
