manganese iii phosphate is a compound with the chemical formula MnPO4. It is an essential raw material for the production of ferrites and thermistors. It occurs naturally as the mineral bixbyite. In addition, it is the reaction product of chromium (III) and phosphate ions in the formation of the rare mineral ferraioloite. It is also a precursor to the formation of apatite. The equilibria between manganese and phosphate ions in a solution containing potassium dihydrogen phosphate have been studied by measuring the potential of the Mn3+Mn2+ half-cell at a series of [H+] levels. It has been shown that the addition of H3PO4 shifts acid-base reaction equilibria in KDP solutions and changes the ratio of different protonated forms of ion phosphate.
