Selenide properties
Selenides contain compounds with selenium anions. Se2-, which is similar to the sulfides can only occur in strong alkaline solutions. While it forms in neutral solutions it is called HSe, while H2Se occurs in acidic solutions. Some metal selenides can react quickly with oxygen in the atmosphere, making them easier to breakdown than sulfides. An active metal selenide may undergo an oxidation reaction or dissolves reaction. Aluminum selenide reacts quickly with moisture to form a highly toxic dissolve gas.
